Why Aurora Husky Lodge?

The Story Behind Our Name

The name "Aurora Husky Lodge" reflects the owner's lifelong connection to sled dogs and the Alaskan wilderness.

The word "Husky" refers to the sled dogs that played such an important role in his life.

His journey with sled dogs began more than 30 years ago in Japan. After moving to Alaska, he established his own kennel and eventually cared for approximately 70 sled dogs while pursuing his passion for competitive mushing.

The property where our lodge now stands was once used as a training area for his sled dogs, making it a particularly meaningful place.

Inside the lodge, you will also find various sled dog racing items and equipment from his years as a musher.

Aurora Husky Lodge is more than just a place to watch the northern lights. It is a place where you can experience a part of Alaska's history and the personal journey that brought this dream to life.

Welcome to Aurora Husky Lodge

Aurora Husky Lodge is a private aurora viewing facility located outside Fairbanks, Alaska.

The lodge was founded by a Japanese aurora guide with a long history in sled dog racing. He won the North American sled dog championship and competed in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race twice.

After moving to Alaska in 1999, he began working as an aurora guide in 2001. Through years of guiding visitors from around the world, he gradually developed a dream of creating his own aurora viewing lodge. In 2020, that dream became a reality with the opening of Aurora Husky Lodge.

At our lodge, guests can relax in a warm indoor setting while waiting for the northern lights to appear. When the aurora arrives, our spacious outdoor decks and open viewing areas provide wonderful opportunities to enjoy Alaska's night sky.

With more than 25 years of aurora guiding experience, along with a lifetime of outdoor adventures, our owner is dedicated to making each visit a memorable experience.

Meet Your Guide

The Story of Our Owner

The owner's journey began with a passion for sled dog racing.

After winning the 1998 Open North American Championship, he moved to Alaska, where he established a kennel and lived with approximately 70 huskies while pursuing his career as a musher.

In 2001, he began working as an aurora guide.

After many years of guiding, returning to the Iditarod, and eventually retiring from sled dog racing, he fulfilled his longtime dream by opening Aurora Husky Lodge in 2020.

He believes that experiencing the northern lights is about more than simply watching beautiful lights in the sky. Understanding how they form and learning about the natural world around us can make the experience even more meaningful.

Whether you are curious about the aurora, want to learn how to photograph it, or simply want to hear stories about life in Alaska, he is always happy to share his experiences.

We hope your time at Aurora Husky Lodge becomes one of the most memorable parts of your Alaska adventure.

Our Future Plans

Looking Toward the Future

Aurora Husky Lodge has another dream: to create a place where guests can not only enjoy the northern lights but also stay and experience the beauty of Alaska's wilderness at their own pace.

Since moving to Alaska in 1999 and beginning his career as an aurora guide in 2001, the owner has dreamed of operating both an aurora viewing lodge and an accommodation facility.

We are currently working toward opening a new lodging facility in 2029.

The plan is to build a two-story wooden building with six private guest rooms, each featuring a kitchen and a private balcony.

Our vision is to create a place where visitors can enjoy more than just the northern lights — a place where they can relax, explore, and experience the beauty of Alaska.

Aurora Husky Lodge will continue moving forward, one step at a time, toward making this dream a reality.
